Tricky situation well dealt with by competant staff

I was admitted to the day ward at LRI on wednesday 12th june for what should be a routine hernia operation, however, due to my ongoing chronic illnesses this was in fact far from routine, anaesthetics are a problem due to my respiratory and coronary ailments but this was dealt with in a thoroughly professional manner by all concerned, from entering the ward to my subsequent transfer to ward 24 I was regularly comforted and advised about the procedure and assisted where and when required, I really can't thank all concerned enough at what could have been a traumatic time.

I spent a couple of nights recuperating in ward 24 and the positive experience continued there, regular checks by friendly staff, and again, very good support when it was requested made my stay a pleasure.

This was actually my second admission to LRI this year as in january I spent a few days in ward 22 recovering fron a C.O.P.D exacerbation, I was well looked after then too, having heard so many negative things about the hospital I can only say that my experiences leave me with no reason for complaint.

Thank you one and all.

Update

After having a moan and a gripe about the horrendous time I have had.calling numbers that don't have anyone at the end of it. Switchboard not really knowing the correct number.
PILS not knowing how to contact the right person. Finally I got through to the right department and the right person. I spoke to the secretary, who I have got to say was a breath of fresh air. They dealt with my problem quickly and effectively and did call me back as promised. May I add the only person that did what they said they would! We only go to hospital when something is wrong. So receive a call that was a comfort was greatly taken. As a result I now have an appointment and back on track. I can not thank them enough. They are an asset to the hospital. Thank you for everything you have done.

Disgusted and Annoyed

I went into the LRI for an ear operation and was left to make my own way from theater arrivals to x ray and back dressed in only a hospital gown. luckily my Daughter was there to give me a hand then after the operation i was sent home with an open wound and no painkillers the wound became infected and i have and to have it dressed on a daily basis by my own GP who was disgusted i had been sent home without a dressing on the wound. the infection has spread despite the best efforts off my GP and the nursing staff at the sugary and i am now on stronger antibiotics after having to have a swab taken. i have now been left with a weeping hole wear the operation took place.

good service from physio outpatients

liked having choice of hospital, i chose the LRI as most convenient, was expecting a long wait for appointment but it came through in a reasonable time frame. Outpatients waiting area clean and tidy, with friendly reception staff. I have had 2 appointments now and both have been on time. The physio was wonderful to work with, very friendly with obvious expertise. A programme was designed and i am happy to say that my condition has improved, so much so that i will not require injections as previously thought.
Thank you to the physio team.

Post op checks good service

I had surgery at another hospital and had to go to LRI for some post op checks as things were not quite right. From setting foot in there I was well looked after, everything I needed was dealt with swiftly. The nursing staff were excellent and they even had my original doctor on who knew my case which was an added bonus. LRI sometimes gets a raw deal but I was impressed and noticed the cleanliness had improved since my last visit.

Disorganised and difficult to get straight answers

My father was admitted to an assessment ward after being admitted to A&E with low blood pressure. He waited in A&E for 6 hours. After being admitted to ward, nursing staff succeeded in tearing his skin when moving him sufficient to require stitches .. And then didn't dress e weeping wound for 3 days. During this time he also had a fall while being supervised when urinating. Do I think this could be improved? Well, it is difficult to see how they could be worse

Time wasting but good text reminders

It takes us 90 minutes to get to the hospital and it is frustrating when we find nothing out. Either the surgeon is not in and his colleagues say we must come back a week later to get his diagnosis. Or we go back a week later and the surgeon tells us we'll need to have another x-ray before he can decide anything, so we go away again to wait for another appointment. I'm sure operation waiting list times could be shortened if these unnecessary appointments had been replaced with an email or phone call. (In this case, 2 adults missed work, as the patient cannot reach the hospital by public transport and needed a lift.)
We do, however, appreciate the text appointment reminders - great idea!
