Overview

Site map of the Leicester Royal Infirmary

Leicester Royal Infirmary is located close to Leicester city centre. The hospital provides the main Emergency Department in Leicester.

Our emergency department has been designed with our patients in mind and we are here to treat people who are ill or injured and need treatment quickly.  There is clear signage around our building that will explain where you need to go and what you can expect.

When you arrive at our Emergency Department, please report to reception. You will be assessed by a nurse who will decide which member of our team can best treat you.  If we feel you do not need emergency treatment, we will give you advice about where to go or help you make an appointment with your GP if necessary.

If you need treatment, you will be given a unique number and asked to take a seat in our ‘Blue Zone’ to wait your turn.  We understand that waiting can be frustrating; however, patients with a greater medical need must be treated first.

In some instances, if we feel that you are more ill than you’re aware of, you may be taken into the major’s area or Emergency Room for treatment.

Our aim is to treat and either discharge or admit you within four hours of your arrival.  If at any point your condition gets worse whilst waiting, please inform a member of our team so we can address your concerns immediately.

You can easily access our Adults’ Emergency Department from Ayelstone Road.  There is a 20 minute drop-off zone outside the main entrance, or you can use our multi-storey car park on Havelock Street. Please follow the signs.

Our Children’s Emergency Department entrance is completely separate.  It can be found on Infirmary Square, opposite the Jarvis building approximately 100m from the entrance to our old Emergency Department.

All other hospital services at the Royal Infirmary can be accessed via the Windsor Building.
