I have to start by saying this is the worst illness I have ever experienced, I can only pity any young children, elderly or who are already ill that get this. I started feeling out of sorts Christmas night, just off my food and a slight temperature. By 3am Boxing Day, I had severe stomach cramps, fever and terrible headache. The vomiting started around 5am and continued on the hour until Midnight, to the extent that I no longer had any food in my body and was only vomiting yellow water/bile or nothing at all. The constant vomiting has left me with severe chest, stomach and neck pain where I have pulled muscles. The diarrhoea started afterwards, again on the hour which resulted in no sleep and dehydration. It was even difficult to keep water down without wretching. The smell or even look of any food was just disgusting to me. I rang NHS direct after getting light headed and pins/needles in my hands. I was advised to take at least 1 glass of water an hour, sipping slowly, also ice cubes or an ice lolly and to contact the out of hours doctor if the symptoms became worse or if there was blood in the vomit/diarrhoea. I was also told not to go to work and avoid contact with other for at least 48hrs after my last bout of vomiting/diarrhoea. 2 days on, I still can only manage a small amount of food, soup/toast but fluids with dioralyte every hour are not causing any problems. My temperature is back to normal and headache gone, just the muscle strain remains.
