"Your doctor will want to make sure that it is IBS that you have and not another more serious illness, such as food allergy, an infection or an overactive thyroid gland." I've had IBS-like symptoms for over 20 years and seen many GPs, none of whom have bothered with the above. They just assume it's IBS unless there are other symptoms. It's time that GPs took this condition far more seriously as it can be extremely debilitating.
