Country-by-country guidance

Travelling in the European Economic Area (EEA)

The European Economic Area (EEA) is a free trade zone between countries of the European Union (EU), Iceland, Norway and Liechtenstein.

Each EEA country listed blow provides specific guidance on how to access healthcare or claim refunds during a visit.

Different rules apply depending on the circumstances of your visit. Ensure you have gathered all information you need before reading the country specific details by visiting the

'About the EHIC', 'Moving abroad' or 'Planned treatment abroad' section.

Click on the link of the country you would like to visit and prepare in advance for your trip abroad.
