Dyspraxia (childhood)

  • Overview

Causes of dyspraxia

Very little is known about dyspraxia. It is thought to be caused by the motor neurones not developing properly. The motor neurones are nerves cells that relay signals from your brain to your muscles, allowing you to move.

It is thought that the neurones fail to form proper connections and are less effective at transmitting electrical signals from the brain to the muscles.

Sometimes, the electrical signal from the brain does not reach the muscles at all and the child fails to respond to requests.
