Arthroscopy

Advantages of having an arthroscopy

Arthroscopies are carried out using keyhole surgery, where only a small incision (cut) is made in the skin. Therefore, the procedure has the following advantages over ‘traditional’, open surgery:

  • you will experience less post-operative pain compared to open surgery,
  • there is a faster healing time,
  • there is a reduced risk of infection,
  • it can often be performed on an out-patient basis, which means that you do not have to spend the night in hospital, and
  • you will be able to resume normal activities more quickly.
