Our national partners

To be successful, Change4Life faces the challenge of getting families to change their lifestyles. We work with national partners, including commercial brands, government departments and NGOs, to reach far more people than we could alone. Many of these brands can talk to our audience in ways that we can’t - and we can use this to help influence people’s behaviour.

Walk England

Walk England supports Change for Life by managing and promoting the user-generated walking website: www.walk4life.info

The website was created with funding from the Department of Health to encourage people to consider walking as a way of becoming more physically active.

The website was created with funding from the Department of Health to encourage people to consider walking as a way of becoming more physically active.

The Walk4Life website allows users to plot the line of their walk activity on an Ordnance Survey base map and automatically calculates the distance of the walk. Users can record their daily walking activity on the site, allowing them to keep track of their progress in their profile area. The website has a walks database of over 60,000 walks that are searchable by postcode and submitted to the site by users and other walking organisations.

There are over 2012 maps of Walk4Life miles on the site. Walk4Life miles are easy, one mile walks, many of which are signposted. Their purpose is to encourage those who are not confident about walking long distances to try walking a short measured distance as a means to increase physical activity.

The Department of Health funding for the website ended in November 2012. Walk England continues to fund its presence.
